Within the research project DIAsDEM, a framework for semantically tagging large, domain-specific text archives has been designed and implemented. The notion of semantic tagging refers to annotating texts with domainspecic XML tags that might contain additional attributes describing extracted named entities (e.g., names of persons). Rather than classifying entire documents or tagging single terms, we aim at semantically annotating structural text units such as sentences or paragraphs in order to make their semantics explicit.
Visit the home page of the research project DIAsDEM at Magdeburg University to obtain general information and to download recent publications. The latest DIAsDEM Workbench release and an introductory tutorial can always be downloaded from the hypKNOWsys project page at SourceForge.
The available tutorial contains information about installing the workbench as well as a case-cased introduction to semantic XML tagging of German texts. Do you prefer watching to reading? Henner Graubitz prepared an 8 MB Flash movie that covers the most important contents of the DIAsDEM Workbench 2.1 tutorial.
